Write on information specialism in the style of the author of your choice and win a £50 book token Following the success of the last writing competition, NGLIS are throwing down the gauntlet again for all you budding novelists: Write on information specialism in the style of the author of your choice and win a £50 book token Thanks to the kind sponsorship of Softlink Europe, Network is offering you the chance to win a £50 book token. All you have to do is imagine any author writing about an information specialist. It can be any author- PG Wodehouse (We can all guess Jeeves's real profession), Stephen King, Catherine Cookson, JK Rowling, …- and any genre- romance, horror, mystery, … How about a magic realist approach to corporate file plans? The choice is yours. To enter, please provide a title and an extract from your imaginary novel, the total length of your entry being no more than 400 words. Entries will be judged on their entertainment value and the inventive use they make of our specialist skills rather than their potential interest to a literary agent. Please submit your entry in Word to pat.bell@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk by 5 September 2008. The winning entry will be printed in Network, and its author will receive a £50 book token, courtesy of Softlink Europe. The competition is open to all members of NGLIS. Entries will be judged by the Network Editorial Board. Their decision will be final.

Who are we?
The Network of Government and Library Information Specialists (formerly The Circle Of State Librarians):
provides a golden opportunity to network, socialise and keep in contact with Government information specialists
is a semi-formal organisation run by and for librarians and other information workers from government departments, agencies and other organisations
is non profit making, funded by membership fees and income from courses, conferences and other events
is not affiliated to or funded by any particular government department or other organisation
is managed by members of the Committee, with assistance from other members and colleagues
is open to staff at all grades and levels. All members are welcome to join the committee or otherwise help out with Network activities
What do we do?
We run courses on subjects and skills of particular interest to our members, at very low rates and tailored to the needs of information specialists
We organise an annual conference on a 'hot topic', providing an opportunity to learn more about broader issues, hear top speakers, give your opinion, have a good lunch and catch up with old friends
Don't miss our Summer Social, held in the most architecturally inspiring or otherwise interesting venue we can get, a chance to have a few drinks, network, gossip, and admire each others' libraries. Previous venues include the Terrace at the House of Commons, Somerset House and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
We offer a chance to visit other libraries to find out about the incredible range of resources and services on offer in other organisations
